If you use someone else's image, table or figure, the creator (rights holder/owner) must be named and a full citation must always be provided both in your text and in the reference list.
Under the right of quotation (Copyright Act, 2018, § 29) you may use all or part of an image, figure or table – including in adapted form without obtaining permission, as long as the material is used as part of an academic assignment and not for commercial gain. The source must always be cited.
If you are a master's student, see the blue box below.

Master's students – important information about publishing and permissions

A master's thesis is in principle published openly (open access). This has implications for how you may use figures, tables and images from other sources.

The right of quotation (Copyright Act, 2018, § 29) does permit the reproduction of text, figures, tables and images without permission. However, most academic publishers, including Springer, Elsevier and APA, require explicit permission when material from their publications is made publicly available. This also applies to adaptations based on the original (for example, if you create your "own" figure inspired by another). As a general rule, you should therefore obtain permission from the rights holder before using a figure, table or image. Permission is usually requested through the publisher and may in some cases involve a fee. See how to obtain permission on the next page or here: "Using figures, tables and images from other sources in your bachelor's or master's thesis – do I need permission?"

Exception: If the material has been published under an open licence (e.g. Creative Commons), it may be used without permission, provided the licence terms are followed and a correct citation is provided in accordance with your chosen referencing style. Master's students are free to choose their referencing style.

Using APA?

If the creator has been dead for 70 years or more, you may use a table, figure or image without permission. You must still provide a full citation both in your text and in the reference list.
If in doubt, check the Copyright Act: Copyright Act.

Images you can use freely in your paper (e.g. Creative Commons)

If a work containing an image, table or figure has been published under an open licence (e.g. Creative Commons), it may be used without permission, provided the licence terms are followed and a correct citation in accordance with APA style is provided.

You can easily find images that are free to use in academic work, for example on Flickr and RawPixel. You can also search for freely available images in Google by adding "creative commons" to your search (under "Tools"). Make sure to check the licence information (do you need to credit the photographer or rights holder, for example?).
