The general rule is that an AI tool is not a source, but a tool!

However, if you have used something an AI tool has created — a definition, or an image — you must cite the source in APA style:

Examples of in-text citations:

Parenthetical citation: (Author, 2026, para. X).
Example: (Google, 2026, para. 3) or (OpenAI, 2026, para. 3) or (Sikt, 2026, para. 3) or (Microsoft, 2026, para 3) etc.

Narrative citation: According to Author (2026), blah blah blah (para. 3).
Example: According to Google (2026), blah blah blah (para. 3). Or: According to Google (2026, para. 3), blah blah blah.

With appendix:

Parenthetical citation: (Microsoft, 2026, Appendix A, para. 2).
Narrative citation: According to Microsoft (2026), blah blah blah (Appendix A, para. 2). Or: According to Microsoft (2026, Appendix A, para 2), blah blah blah.

Important to know: If you only have one appendix in your assignment, you do not need to include a letter after the word appendix.
